Perhaps one of the most devastating problems for a computer consumer is a power failure. While power failures can be problematic, they are also unpredictable. Whereas, even a power surge, lightening strike, and other disturbances may occur, you are still left with no warnings. APC Back-UPS ES 725 Broadband prevents the inevitable from occurring.
The APC back up ES 725 allows you to safely and effectively save any files, and shut your system down, and continue to run off of battery power between 8 to 10 minutes. Smaller computers with less power running to them last even longer on battery back up. While your machine is still running, it allows your power supply backup to provide great surge protection by restoring, and cleaning up the electricity coming into your computer. Electricity running only through a wall plug, may allow voltage and frequencies to fluctuate. The APC back up allows your computers power to stay consistent. While this may not be a direct issue with your normal, everyday electrical appliances; it is a threat to computers delicate components.
The power supply does however allow you to operate other electrical products such as, lamps, radios, and other small plug-in items. The APC provides 450 Watts / 725 VA, Input 120V / Output 120V power, along with a resettable circuit breaker. There are replaceable batteries available for the user, in the event new batteries are needed. Batteries are hot swappable, allowing you to change out batteries without shutting unit down, with uninterrupted clean power.
Panther communicates with your computer to show battery level, and notifies of any changing utility power ups. The power supply backup also has an audible alarm, and automatic self testing. Self testing your battery periodically, ensures early detection of a battery that needs replacing.
The APC Back-UPS ES 725 Broadband has 8 surge protected outlets, 4 of them being back up battery outlets; which will also protect your Ethernet, and telephone lines coming into your computer. Input Transformer blocks, another feature on the model ES 725, protects equipment without blocking access to other receptacles.
The APC back up ES 725s weakest feature is its software that controls it. Power chute allows the capability to shut down your system when there is an outage. You may set your computer to shut down in a certain amount of time after an outage, or so long before your battery dies. However, the system has no features to inform you of the time remaining on the battery, or what kind of load it has, etc.
In conclusion, a power supply with these capabilities protects valuable files and equipment.
